Criminal defense lawyer Robert Stern is stunned when he sees who the mysterious client is with whom he is to meet on a remote and run-down industrial estate: Simon, a ten-year-old boy, fragile, terminally ill – and firmly convinced that he had been a murderer in a previous life.
